Unresolved trauma leaves us with long lasting painful effects.
We don’t feel that it’s safe to relax, so we keep ourselves busy even when it’s unnecessary, and insist that we don't have time for "self care". Maybe the truth is we don’t know how to be with ourselves in the quiet moments because we are working hard to avoid the discomfort that will arise as soon as we really slow down.
We feel the depth of our longing to be truly seen and loved, to know that we belong, but find ourselves unable to satisfy that longing. We conclude that something must be wrong with us, but can’t identify what it is, really, much less what to do about it. Perhaps the truth is that we don’t trust others to be close to us, to see us for who we are, because closeness or visibility has been tied to being hurt or misunderstood.
We find ourselves in “if only” stories about our happiness, and yet those hypotheticals seem out of reach and so discouragement knocks on our door again and again. Our self improvement efforts are sincere, but fall short every time.
We may have unexplained physical symptoms that doctors can’t identify the cause of. Sometimes we have “triggers” that overwhelm us in our daily lives and interfere with our ability to function in important ways.
The worst part is that we don’t feel at home in our own bodies. No matter our flavor of dysregulation, it tends to feel like the same thing on repeat and being stuck in varying levels of discomfort….a lot of the time. If this sounds familiar, I may be a good fit for your therapy needs.
My training background is in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dynamic Attachment Repatterning Experience (DARe) and Somatic Experiencing. I am also a yoga teacher and have an extensive background in Buddhism and mindfulness. I love supporting folks in reconnecting with the Earth and a sense of community, and see these as a foundational component of healing. My style is warm, curious, directive, patient, and experiential. You can expect to feel deeply seen, cared for, and also challenged to grow. I am a white, queer, non-binary single parent healing my own trauma via all of the modalities I offer. I live and breathe this work. I believe in your ability to create the life that your heart dreams of, no matter how big the obstacles feel. If you’re curious about how I could help you get there, I’d love to hear from you.
